Create and Manage JHA

Create a JHA, assign the field team, record work acknowledgement, and submit the validated hazards and controls for approval.

JHA Workflow

The normal path is Raise → Assign Team → Work Acknowledgement → Approve.

  • After Raise, the JHA Owner assigns the field team.
  • After Assignment, team members review and acknowledge the job steps, hazards, and controls.
  • After all required acknowledgements, the JHA Owner or Approver approves, reverts, or rejects the JHA.
  • After approval, return to the linked permit or work activity.

Web and Mobile topics are parallel ways to perform a stage; they are not consecutive steps.

JHA is integrated with the Permit-to-Work process. When a permit requires a JHA, the permit cannot proceed to authorization until the linked JHA is approved. This adds a formal review of hazard identification and risk controls before the permit is issued and work begins.

JHA follows a defined lifecycle to ensure hazards are reviewed and acknowledged before work execution.

A JHA typically goes through the following stages:

InitiateAssignIn ProgressApprove

At each stage, different users (such as Requester, JHA Owner, or JHA Team) perform specific actions to ensure hazards are properly evaluated and controlled.

Refer to Section Role-Based Permissions for detailed information on which roles can initiate, assign, and approve JHAs.
